The Assad regime’s Foreign Minister has declared that Israel will be “paying a price” for its attacks on Iranian tankers bringing oil to regime-held parts of Syria.
There should be deterrence to Israeli attacks on ships. The Israeli government and arrogant Israeli leaders must understand that these attacks cannot continue with Israel not paying a price.”
He did not offer any example of how the regime might retaliate against Israel.
Israeli authorities made no comment.
Multiple sources have described an Israeli campaign to deny oil to the Assad regime, which is facing a fuel crisis. The Israeli daily Haaretz claimed that “several dozen” attacks on tankers have inflicted “billions of dollars” of damage.

Iran s Guardian Council announced the list of approved candidates for the June 18 presidential elections. The seven in the list, leaked earlier this week by Fars News, are almost all conservative or hardline followers.
Although the Guardian Council can disqualify any candidate, Ayatollah Khamenei can ultimately amend the list. While the list has surprised many, the exclusion of former Parliament speaker Ali Larijani, who was seen as a frontrunner and main challenger to Chief Justice Ebrahim Raisi, was expected.
These are the candidates:

Less than a month before Iran’s June 18 presidential election, there are few signs of enthusiasm about the vote.
For many Iranians, voting in the Islamic republic has often been a choice between bad or worse.
Elections in Iran are tightly restricted, with candidates being preselected by hard-liners on the country’s unelected Guardians Council.
Frustrated by the limited powers of elected officials, their failure to deliver on promises, and the absence of meaningful change to the lives of ordinary citizens, some Iranians have concluded that staying away from the ballot box is the right choice this year.
