CHITRAL: Shazia Ishaq, 25, belonging to a remote village of Upper Chitral, has become the first woman police officer in Malakand division after she passed the competitive examination of the Federal Public Service Commission.
Daughter of a retired junior commissioned officer of the Pak Army, Ms Ishaq had earned a BS degree in political science from Islamia College University in 2018.
Talking to
Dawn, she said Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) was her first choice in the competitive examination as she yearned to be a police officer from her childhood.
Explaining the reason of her choice, she said in the male-dominated society a woman police officer could be a ‘ray of hope’ for women in distress.

No doubt education is very important subject and basic need of every citizen of the country, but, unfortunately, since the last few years, this important subject has not been of priority among the concerned authorities. It is indeed unfortunate that rather than increasing the education budget, it has been decreased, and due to this, universities and Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) have suffered the most. Certainly, it should be the first and foremost responsibility of the governments, education ministry, and the concerned authorities, like the Higher Education Commission (HEC). THIS is with reference to the editorial ‘Professor’s removal’ (April 17). Any nation’s rise and fall depend on the quality of education that its students get. Teachers are considered the guides and spiritual parents of students to help them lift the status of the country by imparting quality education.
The removal of a professor from Islamia College University, Peshawar, on account of alleged harassment, is indeed a laudable decision. Several cases have been reported both in public and private institutions from across the country, but university administrations are generally reluctant to discuss such cases publicly as they fear that it will negatively influence their institutions’ reputation.
