Myanmar’s State Administrative Council (SAC), the military regime’s governing body, has released two pro-military ultranationalists who were arrested under the ousted National League for Democracy (NLD) administration for sedition in late January, just before the coup.
Michael Kyaw Myint, the general secretary of the ultranationalist Yeomanry Development Party (YDP), and Daw Moe Moe Khaing, a central executive committee member of the YDP, said on Facebook that charges against them were withdrawn at the instruction of the SAC on Tuesday.

In its latest effort to put pressure on the military regime, the Biden administration has imposed sanctions on the junta’s governing body and key figures of its administration, including those in charge of economic and monetary policy.
The US has added Myanmar’s State Administration Council (SAC) to a list of its targeted sanctions. The body was created by coup leaders to support its unlawful overthrow of the democratically elected civilian government, the US said.

The Yangon house of U Thein Nyunt, a member of the military regime’s governing body the State Administrative Council (SAC), was attacked with three bombs around 7.15 pm on Wednesday.
“Three homemade bombs were thrown at the house. Only one bomb exploded. One of them was made with PVC pipe and the others were made with iron pipes. No one was injured and there was no serious damage,” said a source close to U Thein Nyunt.
Junta forces arrived at the house in Yangon’s Thingangyun Township following the incident and carried out patrols in the neighborhood.

The European Union imposed sanctions on 10 more junta members, including its ethnic minority representatives, and two military-controlled conglomerates on Monday.
The latest sanctions target nine members of the State Administrative Council (SAC), the junta’s governing body, and its information minister, U Chit Naing, who is responsible for issuing military propaganda.
The EU said the sanctions include asset freezes and visa bans on those involved in decision-making, undermining democracy and serious human rights violations.
At least 739 people have been killed and 3,261 detained by the regime since the military takeover on Feb. 1, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners.

JURIST EXCLUSIVE – International concern grew Friday for Myanmar lawyers and law students arbitrarily detained in the wake of the February 1 military coup that deposed the civilian government and prompted mass pro-democracy street demonstrations that continue despite the killing of over 50 protestors by security forces in the last two weeks. In London, the Law Society – the governing body for solicitors in England and Wales – announced that it had sent a letter to Myanmar’s ambassador to the UK expressing alarm at reports of arbitrary arrests, detention, and even alleged enforced disappearances of lawyers since the junta displaced the civil power headed by Aung San Suu Kyi. In its letter, sent March 2, the Law Society also expressed alarm over ongoing intimidation and harassment of lawyers and other conduct resulting in lawyers being prevented from providing help to detained protesters. The Law Society noted:
