With the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announcing Thursday that fully vaccinated individuals no longer need to wear masks indoors in most cases, Gov. Ned Lamont was quick to announce that Connecticut will enact the same standards as soon as next week. Some neighboring states, like New York and New Jersey, are still reviewing the CDC’s announcement and have not moved as quickly as Connecticut.

STORRS, CT Thomas Katsouleas will be resigning as the University of Connecticut s president at the end of June.
Katsouleas notified UConn Board of Trustees Chairman Daniel Toscano of his decision Thursday and Toscano said q quick interim president will be appointed. Katsouleas will be taking a faculty position. For reasons we have discussed at length over time, I have made the difficult decision to resign my position as President of the University of Connecticut, Katsouleas said in the letter to the trustees. I appreciate your understanding of my decision.

The school’s 16th president reportedly clashed with the Board of Trustees.

On Thursday, UConn announced that President Thomas Katsouleas will resign after less than two years on the job. Katsouleas will continue in his current role through June 30 before moving into a tenured faculty position. The school’s Board of Trustees will name an interim president at its next meeting on May 19.
Board of Trustees Chairman Dan Toscano received the president’s letter of resignation on Mar. 13, 2021 “for reasons we have discussed at length over time.”
University of Connecticut President Thomas Katsouleas plans to resign his position by June 30, according to a letter he submitted to the school’s board of trustees chair in March.
Sources say his relationship with UConn’s Board of Trustees has deteriorated but called his resignation voluntary. The conflict had several causes, sources said, beginning with an unexpected announcement at his inauguration to provide free tuition for lower-income households. More recently, he announced the university would cut slated tuition increases by half without consulting with trustees.
His contract with the university has a provision that allows him to transition to a tenured faculty position.
