Record heat potential for Wednesday, May 26th, 2021
ROANOKE, Va. – It’s another muggy start to our Wednesday morning, with temperatures mainly in the 60s. This gives us a head start on the day, as high temperatures reach the 80s in the New River Valley and Highlands and upper 80s to lower 90s in Roanoke, Lynchburg and Southside.
While widespread storms aren’t expected, some pop-up storms will be possible during the near-record heat of the day.
Given the heat, these storms can grow tall and possibly become strong-to-severe. While we don’t expect an outbreak, we’ll have to watch for a few stronger storms between about 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Thanks, Justin! When I was growing up, my dad always had The Weather Channel on. As a little kid, this was frustrating at times because I’d want to watch something a little more kid-friendly, but as I grew up, I became much more interested in the stories that were being told.
Ready or not, it’s about to get hot.in a few days

Hottest weather since early September on tap this weekend
ROANOKE, Va. – For the last two weeks, our afternoon temperatures have been “below average,” but that is about to change big time these next few days. That all starts Wednesday, as afternoon highs climb into the 70s in the mountains and lower 80s elsewhere.
High temperature forecast for Wednesday, 5/19/2021
This is only the beginning, as afternoon temperatures will rise a few degrees Thursday and Friday. This comes as high pressure sets up camp over the Eastern U.S. This forces the jet stream farther north, resulting in hotter air around here.
