Karachi’s minority and human rights groups have expressed dismay at the Pakistan’s National Commission for Minorities (NCM) for rejecting a recommendation to exclude Islamic topics from compulsory textbooks.
Chela Ram Kewlani, the NCM’s chairman and Hindu activist from Sindh, rejected a report by a Supreme Court-appointed commission that suggested all Islamic content from the single national curriculum should be exclusively placed in the textbooks of Islamic studies/Islamiyat, a subject compulsory only for Muslim students.
Showing their concerns over the NCM head’s statement, leaders of the People’s Commission on Minority Rights (PCMR), an alliance of various minority and human rights group, said Kelwani had supported the violation of the fundamental right of religious minorities guaranteed under Article 22 of Constitution of Pakistan.

The six suspended debt schemes of Franklin Templeton have received ₹1,536 crore from maturities, coupons, sale of asset and prepayments in the fortnight ended April 15
Franklin Templeton is preparing to distribute the third tranche of payment of over ₹2,000 crore early next month. Inflows into the schemes have started increasing with the Supreme Court-appointed liquidator, SBI Funds Management, starting to sell the assets held in the six suspended debt funds.
Investors in Franklin Templeton Ultra Short Bond, Dynamic Bond and Income Opportunity funds will receive about ₹2,000 crore by the end of this month, sources said.

New Delhi, April 23 : Senior advocate and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Vikas Singh on Friday said the outgoing Chief Justice of India S.A. Bobde asked him to ask Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan, if he would be interested to participate in mediation in the Ayodhya title dispute.
In his remarks at the farewell of the Chief Justice, organised by SCBA, Singh said during the initial stages of the Ayodhya title dispute, then Justice Bobde was of the firm view that this dispute should be settled through mediation.
