CARROLLTON An argument over being called a racist and disagreement about the Amish apparently led to a Carroll County man dousing a housemate in gasoline, and setting him on fire, according to testimony during a court hearing Tuesday.
Arlen A. Atkinson, 53, is charged with aggravated murder, aggravated arson, murder and felonious assault in the Jan. 24 death of Scot E. Hupp, 58.
Both men lived in a three-bedroom brick bungalow at Bellflower and Lilly roads NW in Brown Township. The fire occurred about 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 23.
Rick Stauffer, a Carroll County sheriff s deputy and investigator assigned to the Carroll County Prosecutor s Office, testified at Tuesday s hearing before Carroll County Municipal Court Judge Gary L. Willen.

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - A 47-year-old man was shot and found dead on the ground late Saturday morning in Akron, the Summit County Medical Examiner said.
Akron police arrived at the 800 block of Thornton Street for a call of shots fired.
Once they got there, police found the victim lying on the ground with a gunshot wound, according to the Medical Examiner.

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - Akron Police confirmed a homicide investigation is underway for the shooting that killed a 35-year-old man on Thursday afternoon.
Police said officers were sent to the 1200 block of Park Lane Drive after getting a call for shots fired at 3:15 p.m.
When they got there, they found an unresponsive man on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound, according to police.
Police said the 35-year-old victim was later pronounced dead at the scene.
