The man who was found deceased in the Blue River earlier this week has been identified as 21-year-old Tommy Angel Montez of Dillon, according to Summit County Coroner Regan Wood.
Breckenridge police responded to a report of a body in the Blue River near the Satellite Parking Lot on the afternoon of Monday, Dec. 14. The Summit County Coroner’s Office was able to provide a positive identification of Montez on Wednesday afternoon.
The manner and cause of death are still awaiting further testing, but at this time it appears to be an accidental drowning, Wood said.
Montez was originally from San Antonio, Texas.
Colorado Snowboarder Found Dead Near Breckenridge
A Colorado man was unfortunately found dead Monday afternoon, (December 14th) near the Breckenridge ski area.
It s uncertain how the man passed away, but he was found wearing snowboard gear; snowboarding boots, and pants when he was discovered.
Following his body being found and transported to the coroner s office, the Summit County Coroner s Office reported that the cause of death was yet to be determined until further investigation could be completed.
Upon finding the man, who was obviously snowboarding when he tragically lost his life, the Breckenridge Police Department actively reached out to the community to help to identify the man that had so tragically perished, as they were unable to positively identify him on their own at the time.

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. Investigators said a man was found dead in the Blue River in Breckenridge Monday afternoon.
Just before 2 p.m., officers with the Breckenridge Police Department (BPD) responded to a report of a body in the river adjacent to the satellite parking lot, which is located at 1690 Airport Road just north of downtown Breckenridge.
The Summit County Coroner’s Office also responded to conduct an investigation and recover the remains. At this time the cause and manner of death are still being determined.
The Breckenridge Police Department has preliminarily identified a man found dead in the Blue River on Monday afternoon.
At about 1:54 p.m. Dec. 14, the Breckenridge Police Department was called to a report of a person in the Blue River adjacent to the Satellite Parking Lot. The Summit County Coroner’s Office also responded to conduct an investigation and to recover the man’s body.
The man is described as white with darker skin and is about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 150 pounds, according to the police department. He has brown hair, brown eyes and multiple tattoos. He was wearing snowboarding boots and pants.
