Kurt Damschroder. (CNN)A skier died after being buried by an avalanche Saturday in the backcountry of Summit County, Utah.
Kurt Damschroder, 57, of Park City, Utah, was killed after he was caught in the avalanche, Summit County Sheriff Justin Martinez said in a tweet Sunday.
Damschroder was one of two skiers who triggered the avalanche in an area known as Square Top outside of resort boundaries near the Park City Mountain Canyons Village resort, the sheriff s office said in a news release.

PARK CITY Avalanche risk prevented search and rescue officials from reaching the body of a skier who was buried in a slide outside of Canyons Village at Park City until Sunday.
It required additional avalanche mitigation efforts for crews to safely reach the location where the body of 57-year-old Kurt Damschroder, of Park City, was found at around 11 a.m.
Damschroder, a long-time resident of Park City, designer and avid outdoorsman, and his friend were skiing through the backcountry area known as Square Top, along the Park City Ridgeline, on Saturday when Damschroder was fully buried by an avalanche that was triggered by the skiers at about 3:30 p.m.

PARK CITY Officials on Sunday recovered the body of a Park City man who died in a Summit County backcountry avalanche the day before.
Kurt Damschroder, 57, was caught in the avalanche triggered while he and another skier were recreating in the Square Top area outside the Canyons Village area of Park City Mountain Resort.
Summit County Sheriff s Lt. Andrew Wright said Sunday that Damschroder s body was recovered about 11 a.m. Sunday after mitigation efforts made the area safer to approach. He was buried in about 4 feet of snow, Wright said.
