Rosalia Man Arrested For Reckless Burning After Illegal Burns Blow Out Of Control And Torch Abandoned Trailer Homes

A 65-year-old Rosalia man has been arrested for reckless burning for allegedly starting illegal fires which blew out of control and burned multiple abandoned trailer homes. Volunteer Firefighters from several Whitman County departments and sheriff’s deputies were called to the blaze in Rosalia Thursday morning around 11:15.  The fire in the old Porter Trailer Park on Summit Street involved 4 trailers.  Two of the mobile homes were destroyed.  Flames also burned a small patch of wheat stubble next to the abandoned trailer park. Deputies contacted Tracy Porter whose family owns the abandoned park.  Porter allegedly admitted to lighting 5 fires on the property to burn overgrown grass.  He told deputies the wind picked up and blew the flames out of control.  Deputies determined that Porter didn’t have the authority to burn.  He was arrested for 1st degree reckless burning.
