“It’s the best early birthday present I could wish for because it means I can finally look forward to spending time with my family and friends in the new year after being on my own for most of the year,” Keenan, who had a birthday in between shots, said when she received the first dose.
The U.K. earlier this month became the first country to give emergency authorization to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. The vaccine requires two doses 21 days apart.

LONDON, UK Some people in Britain have now received their second and final dose of the coronavirus vaccine as the country’s immunization program rolls on.
Margaret Keenan, 91, became the first person in the U.K. to get the vaccine, on Dec. 8. She then had the follow-up injection Tuesday at a hospital in the central England city of Coventry.
Hospital chief executive Andy Hardy says: “We were delighted to welcome Margaret Keenan back to Coventry’s University Hospital today to safely receive the second dose of the vaccination after she became the first person in the world to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 (vaccine) following its clinical approval.”
A grandmother who became the first person in the world to receive the Pfizer vaccine earlier this month following its clinical approval has been given her second dose.
Margaret Keenan was given the follow-up injection at Coventry’s University Hospital today, three weeks after making history with the first jab.
The 90-year-old received an injection on December 8, and NHS England said at the time that she would have a “booster jab” 21 days later “to ensure she has the best chance of being protected against the virus”.
