March 09, 2021 - 4:48 PM A Kamloops driver being investigated for impaired driving took out their frustration on a police cruiser and spat at the investigating officer, according to Mounties. The altercation started March 6, around 11:50 p.m., when an officer with the RCMP’s Central Interior Traffic Services was conducting an impaired driving investigation on Willow and Popular streets in Kamloops. When the vehicle’s passengers got out (they) began hitting the police cruiser’s windows and yelling profanities, RCMP said in a press release sent out by Const. Crystal Evelyn. As backup arrived and the passengers were arrested, the vehicle’s driver allegedly became destructive, kicking the police vehicle’s windows and spitting at officers.
At 12:16 p.m., officers found a man with non-life threatening cuts on his body. He was taken to hospital for treatment. A police tracking dog team could not find the suspect, who is described only as a white man in black clothing. Evelyn said the victim was unco-operative when speaking with police.
Glass-smash break and enters reported at two businesses A retail store and auto shop were hit by smash-and-grab thieves early Sunday morning. At 2:48 a.m., officers from the Kamloops RCMP rural detachment responded to a report of a break-and-enter on the Yellowhead Highway. Surveillance video showed two men, wearing dark clothing with their hoods up and faces covered, approach a building from the north. One of the men approached the business, kicked in the glass door, stole a donation box, then headed southbound on foot.
March 03, 2021 - 8:57 AM A suspicious vehicle reported in Kamloops led to an arrest and charges for a man ultimately found in Barriere. Kamloops RCMP received a report Feb. 26, around 6 p.m., of a suspicious vehicle on Kootenay Way. Frontline officers from Kamloops’s rural detachment located the car on Hwy 5 and attempted to stop it unsuccessfully. A police officer with the RCMP’s Central Interior Traffic Services later observed the vehicle at a gas station in Barriere, and with the assistance of a Barriere RCMP frontline officer, the vehicle’s driver was detained, then arrested, Const. Crystal Evelyn said in a press release.
Police and emergency services responded to a two-vehicle collision on Sunday afternoon near Vavenby. Around 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 10, a northbound beige SUV collided with a black SUV headed south, 25 kilometres north of Vavenby on Highway 5, according to an RCMP press release. The driver of the beige vehicle, a man from Alberta, was reportedly airlifted to hospital with critical injuries. The occupants of the black SUV were injured but considered non-life-threatening. One of the several dogs in the black vehicle, however, died in the crash and one was injured as well. Road conditions are said to have not been contributing factors, but investigators have stated that they have obtained evidence of impaired driving by alcohol and drugs from the driver of the beige SUV.
