India’s wheat exports to treble this financial year India’s wheat exports are likely to treble in the current financial year, thanks to surging international prices and ultra-low interest rate money increasingly finding its way into agri-commodity markets. The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Tuesday upped its forecast of Indian wheat exports for 2020-21 (July-June) to 18 lakh tonnes (mt), as against its earlier estimate of one lakh tonnes, the highest ever in the last six years, the Indian Express reported. India’s wheat export last fiscal was at 5.95 lakh tonnes. With the Russia government levying a 25 euros-per-tonne export tax on wheat effective from February 15 – in response to high domestic prices – Bangladesh “is beginning to shift its purchases towards India”, the USDA has noted in its latest world grain trade report. Bangladesh’s total wheat imports are placed at 66 lakh tonne in 2020-21.

Centre to set up export hub for jasmine: MP

Madurai Central Government has included jasmine in the list of products with export potential, identified under the ‘Districts as Exports Hubs.” Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Virudhunagar MP B. Manickam Tagore said that Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal had sent him a letter in response to the issue raised by him in the Lok Sabha in September 2020. Mr. Tagore had sought to make Tirumangalam and Tirupparankundram export hubs for jasmine industry. “As importance of jasmine flowers in Madurai is well perceived in international markets, the Government of Tamil Nadu has planned to promote Jasmine cluster in Madurai district,” the Union Minister said in his letter.

Integrated pack house prepares to export veggies to Europe

Express News Service VIJAYAWADA: In a bid to provide healthy farm produce to people and at the same time help farmers effectively market their produce, Kosuri Balaji Agro Foods in Ayyanki of Movva mandal, Krishna, which owns wheat flour mills, started an integrated pack house a facility where fruits and vegetables are received and processed prior to distribution to markets in November, and plans to start exporting once the Covid-19 situation is under control. Speaking to TNIE, Kosuri Srinivas Rao, its managing director, said the wheat flour mills have been in operation since 2016, and now they’ve also started producing jowar and ragi flours and supply them to the government for its YSR Sampoorna Poshana programme. 

UP farmers export 30 tonnes of green chillies, tomatoes to B desh, Nepal

Farmers from Ghazipur district have exported 30 metric tonnes of green chillies and tomatoes to Bangladesh and Nepal. As many as 1,500 farmers from Patal Ganga and adjoining areas of Ghazipur district are earning sufficient money through their hard work. In fact, the importers from Nepal and Bangladesh also visited the farmers in Ghazipur to make their payment. In Ghazipur, farmers are being provided the expertise to export along with higher productivity and growing of crops at international standards. Regional in-charge of Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Dr C.B. Singh said, The soil of the Ganges-Doab region is very fertile which helps farmers to produce vegetables without chemical fertilisers that are further exported to different countries. Apart from being hard-working, the farmers are also relying on the policies of the government as a result of which the vegetables from this region are being exported abroad.
