Father, son stole man’s identity, used it to obtain $400K mortgage, prosecutor says

A father and son from Hackensack were arrested this week and accused of using a man’s personal information to obtain a $400,000 mortgage for a Maywood home, authorities said.
Leonard Gueye, 58, and his son, Eustace Gueye, 28, were charged with theft by deception, money laundering, wrongful impersonation, forgery and defrauding secured creditors, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office announced Friday.
The investigation began on Feb. 5 when the office received word from the Maywood Police Department about a potential mortgage loan fraud, officials said.
Detectives discovered that Leonard allegedly obtained the personal information of the victim from a previous real estate transaction in 2009 and that he used it to obtain a loan from Michigan Mutual to purchase the Maywood home under the victim’s name, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
