LISBON A Common Pleas Court jury found a Salem man guilty of inappropriately touching a young girl under the age of 13.
George Andrew Giffin, 27, Michigan Boulevard, Salem, was taken into custody immediately following the two-day trial. A sentencing hearing was scheduled for Friday.
Although Assistant County Prosecutor Tammie Riley Jones and Giffin’s defense attorney, Peter Horvath, both were ready to go forward with immediate sentencing, the victim and her family had left the courthouse before the verdict was determined. Under Marcy’s Law, the victim has an opportunity to give a statement prior to sentencing.
Both the girl and Giffin had taken the stand during the trial, during which she accused him of putting his hands under her clothes and rubbing her private areas on multiple occasions.
