Noida: Already reeling under severe dust pollution due to the construction of the dedicated freight corridor, around 2,000 families living in multiple highrises along the 130-metre road near the Surajpur industrial area have alleged that the construction activity does not conform to the norms of the National Green Tribunal.
While the state-run Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) had earlier claimed that their work would be complete by March 2021, the pandemic has thrown the progress of work off gear.
Some of the apartment buildings in the area are Shivalik Homes, Design Arc, Migsun Green Mansion, La Galaxia, Venetia Height and Paramount Golf Foreste, and their residents have now complained to the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) against DFCCIL for violating the tribunal’s construction norms.
New Delhi [India], June 11 (ANI): The National Green Tribunal has warned of more stringent action against the concerned officials for not complying with the law relating to the prevention of the discharge of untreated sewage into Sai River at Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh while imposing a cut of Rs 1,000 per month from the salary of the concerned officer till compliance.
The NGT asked the Member Secretary, Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board to explain why action be not taken for the board s failure in providing water quality data of the Sai, functioning of Regional River Committees and reporting the progress to the Chief Secretary.
NOIDA: Nearly six months after the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) held 14 sewage treatment plants (STP) in Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad responsible for releasing untreated effluents into the Hindon river, the regional offices of the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) in both the neighbouring districts have given them a clean chit.
In Ghaziabad, the STPs are located in the areas of Govindpuram, Vijay Nagar and Indirapuram. In Gautam Budh Nagar, the STPs are located in Noida sectors 123, 168, 54 and 50, and in the Kasna and Ecotech areas of Greater Noida.
Utsav Sharma, regional officer of UPPCB (Ghaziabad), said, “All Ghaziabad STPs have been marked compliant by now. The concentration of pollutants in the Hindon in Ghaziabad increases because the water from the river gets tapped out by the Hindon canal. The main pollution load on the Hindon occurs before the river even enters Ghaziabad. However, we have ensured compliance of all the STPs in the district.”
“In the wake of Corona Virus pandemic outbreak, availability of life saving oxygen gas is to be ensured in the State immediately and this would require its production on large scale at the earliest,” it said in an order dated May 2, 2021.
