Gregory losing only bank as Eaton Community Bank closes branch

Eaton Community Bank officials announced the bank s Gregory branch will close July 30.  Longtime Gregory resident and bank customer James Ball said it is a shame to see the branch close.  It s one of the linchpins of the town, Ball, 67, said.  Gregory is a small incorporated community in a predominantly agricultural area. It has a small downtown of a few blocks with about a dozen businesses. It is a mailing address for about 5,200 people and the seat of Unadilla Township government, police and fire services.  In the 19th century, Gregory developed as a railroad stop. It is now a stop on the Mike Levine Lakelands Trail State Park, a non-motorized path that follows the old rail route.

Fowlerville school bond - Four things to know about the May 4 special election

Fowlerville Community School District is hoping to build a new elementary school and install air conditioning in existing buildings beginning next year.  The district hopes to do so with a $37.8 million bond proposal that goes before voters on May 4. School officials say the proposal will not increase property taxes.  Here are four things to know before the election. What improvements will be made if the bond proposal passes? Fowlerville Superintendent Wayne Roedel said there are multiple phases to the project. First, air conditioning would be installed in Kreeger Elementary and Fowlerville Junior High School. The district also plans to upgrade the electrical system in the high school to install air conditioning in a future bond proposal.
