Heroes Rise Coffee Company in Crookston is temporarily closed due to “massive equipment failure,” owner Matt VanGrinsven told the Times Monday. He says every piece of equipment they acquired when they took over the space formerly housed by Cofe has failed and they need to wait to see if they can get a loan from their bank or hear back from Crookston Housing & Economic Development Authority who they had an agreement with.
Heroes Rise opened on University Avenue in Crookston in December and serves specialty coffee, baked goods and lunches. VanGrinsven said they had to shut down their kitchen two weeks ago due to equipment failure and “piece by piece” machines are failing.

SARASOTA, Fla. â A new ice cream and coffee shop in Sarasota is giving jobs to people with disabilities.
Rise Coffee Company and Nyeâs Ice Cream Sandwiches is serving up more than gourmet coffee and homemade ice cream, theyâre dishing out inclusion.
By partnering with two non-profits, The Haven and Easter Seals, Rise and Nye s has about 30 employees with developmental and intellectual disabilities. It s really fun. I m making a lot of new friends and learning a lot of new skills and I like looking at all the cute guys, said Julia Deverdzic, an employee.
More B3 grants approved by CHEDA Board

Five more B3 (Building Better Business) grant requests were approved this week during CHEDA’s board meeting with the first application for Heroes Rise Coffee Company using up the remaining balance in the program’s coffers before a funding boost is expected to come from the city. The remaining four requests for KROX Radio, The Holding Company - Golf Terrace Motel, Hermreck Construction and Thrivent Financial, were approved pending city funding.
The total amount of this round’s B3 requests is $22,000 - $5K for Heroes, $4K for KROX, $5K for Golf Terrace Motel, $5K for Hermreck Construction and $3K for Thrivent Financial.
