CANBERRA, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) A parliamentary committee has recommended building a network of fences around Australia to protect native species from feral cats.
A recent inquiry into their environmental impact conducted by the House of Representatives Standing Committee on the Environment and Energy recommended a network of fenced areas, known as Project Noah , and a night-time curfew for domestic cats.
The inquiry heard that feral cats kill an estimated 3 billion native animals every year, making them the predatory threat to Australia s biodiversity.
The chair of the inquiry, Member of Parliament (MP) Ted O Brien, said that cats have decimated Australia s biodiversity.
