Implementing the open grazing ban - Vanguard News

Vanguard News Implementing the open grazing ban On Kindly Share This Story: Since the Governors of the 17 states of Southern Nigeria banned open grazing of livestock in their respective states, there has been a groundswell of support. Members of the National Assembly as well as the Speakers of the State Assemblies from three geopolitical zones have also thrown their support. The implication is that the elected political class has converged on the same page with the leaders of thought and the general public on this issue. The question is: what next? The Governors intend to meet President Muhammadu Buhari when he returns from his official trip to France. The obvious intention is to ask him to roll out the armed forces, police and the military in support of the implementation of the open grazing ban. In a gazette published on Friday (14 May), the president announced the salaries will take effect retroactively from 1 April 2020, with most senior officials receiving no increase. This aligns with recommendationsmade by the Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers earlier this year. The recommendations are based on consultations with the minister of finance, the minister of Justice, the chief justice and Lower Courts Remuneration Committee, and the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

BudgIT and corruption in the budget process

Share THE brazenness with which those who are bent on milking and bilking the country go about their perfidy is fuelled by the sloppiness and ineptitude of those constitutionally empowered to checkmate them. In complicity, both groups have plundered the economy, plunged the country into a bottomless debt pit, pauperised the people and conferred on the country the ignoble title of global headquarters of poverty. The seeming helplessness of the Nigerian state at the hands of its economic saboteurs was accentuated by a report recently released by BudgIT, a civic-tech non-governmental organisation, in which the padding of the 2021 budget to the tune of N39.5 billion through project duplication was revealed.
