Garfield County summer camps offer a variety of ways to keep young people busy once the school year ends

Stress no further and peruse the following summer camp options, just a few of what is being offered this summer in Garfield County, to see what may be best for your soon-to-be camper. CMC Kids’ Summer Art Camps There are a handful of spots left for the first segment of CMC’s arts camps beginning on June 14 and inspired by Paris. Education coordinator Annmarie Deter said the theme of this year’s camp is world travelers, and programming will be offered for children from ages 3.5-7 from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and camp will be from 9:40 a.m. to 4:10 p.m. for kids ages 6-14.

Roaring Fork School District invites student award winners to attend board meeting

This week’s Roaring Fork School District board meeting starts off a little differently: Students from high schools and middle schools in the district will be taking the spotlight. Instead of inviting folks to the standard Zoom link from which meetings can be accessed, Angie Davlyn, senior project manager for RFSD, said things will be kicked off on a Google Meet link so members of the board can see the students whose accomplishments they’ll be celebrating. “It fills a role for the board members to be able to have the ability to honor and celebrate students who have achieved these very significant awards,” Davlyn said.

Roaring Fork Valley legend George Stranahan dies, leaves behind storied legacy

Paul Conrad/Aspen Times file photo Longtime valley resident George Stranahan passed away Thursday in Denver after suffering a stroke and complications after heart surgery. He was 89. Stranahan leaves behind a rich legacy in the Roaring Fork Valley. He founded the Aspen Physics Center, the Aspen Community and Carbondale Community schools, the Woody Creek Tavern, the Third Street Center in Carbondale, and several nonprofits centered on social justice, education and community organizing. He has held many titles over the years, including physicist, professor, philosopher, educator, rancher, photographer, author, publisher, philanthropist, entrepreneur, beer and whiskey maker, tavern keeper, record producer, husband and father.
