Boxing world championship for men to be held in Oct-Nov in Belgrade
Lausanne, May 11: The world championship of boxing for men will be held from October 26 to November 6 in Belgrade, Serbia, the International Boxing Association (AIBA) announced on Tuesday.
The event was to be held in India originally but the country lost the hosting rights after failing to pay the host fee last year. An irate AIBA then awarded the competition to Serbia.
“The tournament will be held from 26 October – 6 November 2021,” the AIBA announced.
The organisation of the event will be overseen by the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, who heads the Local Organising Committee (LOC).

Istvan Kovacs, secretary general of the International Boxing Association (AIBA), has said that the AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championships later this year in Belgrade will raise the bar significantly for the sport in the region.
After visiting the Balkan Boxing Championships which took place in Zagreb, Croatia, where he met with the leadership of the National Federations of the Balkan region, Kovacs spoke of his confidence in the success of the Championships which AIBA has announced will take place in the Serbian capital from October 26 to November 6. We had a fruitful discussion on the current situation and the boxing development, Kovacs said.

New Delhi [India], May 7 (ANI): Six-times AIBA Women s World Champion and five-times ASBC Asian Women s Champion Mary Kom will compete in the flyweight (51kg) in Dubai in the upcoming Asian women s Boxing Championships.
The upcoming ASBC Asian men s and women s Boxing Championships, which scheduled to be held in New Delhi have been relocated to Dubai, United Arab Emirates due to the current COVID-19 situation.
Boxers born between 1980 and 2002 are eligible to participate in the ASBC Asian men s and women s Elite Boxing Championships in 10 weight categories both for men and women.

Kielce : , April 28 (IANS) Nineteen-year-old Jordanian boxer Rashed Al-Swaisat died in a hospital here on Monday night after battling head injuries for 11 days following a bout in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships, which concluded recently.
India had emerged the most successful nation in the tournament, bagging eight gold and three bronze medals, followed by Russia, who had three gold, five silver and three bronze medals.
Al-Swaisat was admitted to hospital on April 16 and had surgery on his brain after collapsing in the third round of the under-81kg contest against Estonia s Anton Winogradow.
