THE Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band made waves two years ago when it won the World Pipe Band Championships in Scotland.
Sukhpreet Kaur first joined the band as an eight-year-old together with her older brother. Several family members and friends were already in the band, and Sukhpreet and her brother decided to try it out.
Sukhpreet eventualy made her debut with the band at age 11, and has been leading the tenor section for the past decade, and also recently picked up the snare drums. Now 24, Sukhpreet, who recently finished her MEng in Mechanical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, says that she still has many more goals to achieve with the band in the future.

The World Pipe Band Championships 2021 has been cancelled due to coronavirus.
About 200 bands from across the globe usually compete in the event, which was due to take place in Glasgow this August but is now expected to return in 2022.
It is the second year the championships have been cancelled because of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, having previously been held in the city every year since 1986.

The World Pipe Band Championships have been cancelled for a second year due to Covid-19.

The championships were also cancelled last year because of the pandemic but they are expect to return in 2022.
The contest was first held in 1948 and has been hosted by Glasgow every year since 1986.
Kevin Reilly, chairman of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, said: The World Pipe Band Championships is the competition where bands, pipers and drummers want to test themselves against the very best.
