CAP Project helps Ukrainian credit unions take first step toward guaranteeing member deposits WOCCU signs memorandum of cooperation with individual deposit guarantee fund MADISON, WI (February 8, 2021) World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) and its Credit for Agriculture Producers (CAP) Project have agreed to provide technical assistance and international best practice expertise to Ukraine’s Individual Deposit Guarantee Fund (DGF) in a joint effort to establish a deposit guarantee system for the country’s credit unions. The CAP Project, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the DGF that also lays out a process through which CAP and WOCCU’s team of experts will help draft relevant legal and regulatory acts, while ensuring such a deposit insurance system is also in alignment with the European Union’s (EU) regulatory frameworks that pertain credit unions.

The surge in migrants places Peru as the second-largest recipient of Venezuelans and the largest host of Venezuelan asylum seekers worldwide. Approximately 80 percent of the Venezuelans migrants and refugees have settled in Lima, the preferred destination due to employment opportunities and government services. Most Venezuelans reside in the city’s northern, working-class neighborhoods. Venezuelans are increasingly moving to smaller coastal cities outside Lima, including the regions of Arequipa, Lambayeque, and La Libertad. As of January 2021, the U.S. Government has provided over $100 million in assistance to more than 20 partners to support response efforts in Peru.

Mountain West Credit Union Association announces “Advocacy in Action” virtual GAC experience DENVER, CO (February 4, 2021) The Mountain West Credit Union Association announces its “Advocacy in Action” experience. The event series will include meetings with legislators and regulatory agencies, as well as collaborative events to bring uniquely relevant and engaging content to the region’s membership across a virtual platform. The MWCUA events will be held separately, but in conjunction with the 2021 Credit Union National Association Governmental Affairs Conference (CUNA GAC) being held March 2-4, 2021, virtually as well. Because of the virtual format, MWCUA members do not need to be registered for the CUNA GAC to participate in the regional Hike visits and events.
