The New Jersey Devils today named center Nico Hischier the 12th captain in team history. The announcement was made by Devils Executive Vice President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald, in conjunction with Head Coach Lindy Ruff.
Hischier, Ruff and Fitzgerald will all be available during New Jersey s post-game media video conference this afternoon.
At 22 years and 47 days old, he is the youngest captain currently in the NHL and the second youngest in New Jersey history (Kirk Muller, 21 years and 243 days old; both Muller and Hischier were handed the captaincy at the start of their fourth NHL season). Rasmus Kupari Recalled to LA Kings, Will Join Taxi Squad
Rasmus Kupari, who currently leads the AHL in scoring, will be recalled by the LA Kings today and placed on the team’s taxi squad.
Friday night, with an assist on Cole Hults’ first AHL goal, Kupari notched his seventh assist of the season. He also has one goal, shown here.
After sitting out all of 2020 with a knee injury sustained while playing for Finland at the World Junior Championships, Kupari has been one of the more effective Reign players this season.
Even so, first year AHL coach John Wroblewski has continued to want more from the 20-year-old forward, noting he has high expectations for the Kings 2018 first round selection.
The Rockford IceHogs are off to a rough start to their shortened 2021 AHL season. Still searching for their first win of the year, the IceHogs are 0-3-1 after dropping their last two games – but, hey, that was the same start as the Chicago Blackhawks. Maybe the response to the 0-3-1 start with the IceHogs will be similar to what we saw in Chicago. That would be nice.
Even though they have dropped all four games and have just one point in the standings, it’s not like the IceHogs have looked terrible. Outside of a 5-2 loss to the Chicago Wolves, the IceHogs have been in each game as the clock winds down, having lost their three other games by one goal each. Rockford is in fifth-place in the Central Division with one point after four games, just ahead of the Cleveland Monsters, who are 0-2-0 to begin the year.
