IFI signs up to United Nations Sports for Climate Action initiative

IFI signs up to United Nations Sports for Climate Action initiative Wednesday, 3 March 2021 The International Federation Icestocksport (IFI) has become a signatory of the United Nations Sports for Climate Action Framework. The initiative calls on sporting organisations to acknowledge the contribution of the sports sector to climate change. IFI as International Federation is directly affected by the climate change as a winter sport often played on frozen lakes in classic Alp countries or North American territories, and the climate change negatively impacts the conditions of the ice here, IFI President Christian Lindner said.  After becoming a signatory, the IFI has committed to following the five principles of the framework.

WFDF strengthens development efforts in Africa with Cape Verde as a role model for Portuguese-speaking countries

02/03/21 Interview with Filomena Fortes, IOC Member and President of the National Olympic Committee of Cape Verde The World Flying Disc Federation has been working with the African country of Cape Verde as key co-operation partner for its development grants program in 2020 and 2021. The development program for Cape Verde involves three major parts: providing education materials to 100 schools in Cape Verde for teaching the Flying Disc sport of Ultimate and Spirit of the Game (SOTG) in the Portuguese language; a delivery of 1,200 discs to schools; and training Flying Disc coaches and teachers in Cape Verde. Filomena Fortes, IOC Member and President of the National Olympic Committee of Cape Verde (Comité Olímpico Cabo-Verdiano) commented in a recent interview about the importance of the co-operation with WFDF for Cape Verde and on the Olympic perspective of Flying Disc sports.

Here Are The Countries Qualified for the 2022 World Games

Germany Those eight countries are also the top eight teams in WFDF’s 2020 World Ultimate Rankings, though not in that order. WFDF considered alternatives to WUGC to serve as World Games qualifiers, including a new mixed-only international tournament and even a tournament just to be held in Europe to determine the three European qualifying teams. In the end, it was determined that the combination of COVID-19 uncertainty and the burden of tournament expenses and physical toll on players was too great to overcome. “Pushing Beach Worlds to 2022 and having World Games in 2022 that event calendar is already quite crowded,” said WFDF Vice President Brian Gisel. “And the demands on the players that will be on such qualifying teams will already be immense, not even accounting for National Teams.”
