The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday registered a case against UK-based political consulting company Cambridge Analytica for the 'illegal harvesting' of personal data from Facebook users in India.
Cambridge Analytica replied that they had received data from GSRL pertaining to US citizens only. It did not respond to MeitY's further correspondences.

The CBI has booked UK-based Cambridge Analytica and Global Science Research Ltd for illegally harvesting data of Facebook users in India for commercial purposes.

NEW DELHI: The CBI has filed a case against UK-based political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica and Global Science Research Limited (GSRL) for illegally harvesting personal data of more than 5 lakh Facebook users in India.
The agency has registered a case against the two firms under section 120(B) of the IPC and sections 66B, 85, 43(a) r/w 66 of IT Act 2000. According to sources, following a preliminary enquiry based on a complaint filed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information technology, it was revealed that the founder and director of Cambridge Analytica had allegedly created an app ‘thisisyourdigitallife’ which was authorised to collect speci
