In 2014, Global Science Research created an app thisisyourdigitallife to collect specific datasets of Facebook users for research and academic purposes The CBI has booked UK-based Cambridge Analytica and Global Science Research Ltd for illegally harvesting data of Facebook users in India for commercial purposes, officials said on Friday.
The action came after a preliminary enquiry into the matter which showed that Global Science Research had created an app thisisyourdigitallife which was authorised by Facebook to collect specific datasets of its users for research and academic purposes in 2014, they said.

NEW DELHI: The CBI has filed a case against UK-based political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica and Global Science Research Limited (GSRL) for illegally harvesting personal data of more than 5 lakh Facebook users in India.
The agency has registered a case against the two firms under section 120(B) of the IPC and sections 66B, 85, 43(a) r/w 66 of IT Act 2000.
