SINGAPORE: Nine new Nominated Members of Parliament (NMPs) will be appointed by President Halimah Yacob for a two-and-a-half-year term which starts on Jan 21.

The names were announced by the Office of the Clerk of Parliament in a news release on Thursday (Jan 14).
All nine are first-time NMPs. They are:
SP Group principal technical officer Mr Abdul Samad Abdul Wahab
SISTIC chairman Ms Janet Ang
Global Esports Federation secretariat director Mr Mark Chay

SINGAPORE: Low-wage workers will be among the priority issues raised in Parliament, pledged several candidates of the new cohort of Nominated Members of Parliament (NMPs).
The Office of the Clerk of Parliament announced the names of the nine new NMPs on Thursday (Jan 14). All nine are first-time NMPs, including labour union representative Abdul Samad Abdul Wahab, former national swimmer Mark Chay and conservation scientist Professor Koh Lian Pin.

The Global Esports Federation Kicks Off 2021 01/11/21
The Global Esports Federation starts the new year following the successful staging of the first edition of the #worldconnected series (#wcs20) in December 2020. The event saw participation from 75 countries and territories across seven regions of the world.
The regional esports competitions hosted by the GEF’s Member Federations attracted close to 5,000 esports players worldwide competing in 11 titles, drawing over half a million spectators online. Top matches were streamed live on the GEF’s Twitch channel – twitch.tv/GEF.
In addition, the staging of the inaugural GEFcon attracted over 1,000 participants from around the world. GEFcon20, developed with Sports Innovation Lab, showcased 14 sessions with 50 global thought leaders from esports, sports, technology and innovation sectors. The GEFcon20 sessions remain available for free viewing at GEFcon.org/videos.
CGF President Dame Louise Martin: We should be optimistic about our future 30th December 2020
Commonwealth Games Federation President Dame Louise Martin in her annual end of year statement called on its members to view the future with optimism to overcome the challenges they have faced throughout 2020.
In her end of year statement she said: “There is no doubt that 2020 has been a hugely challenging year.
I do not think any of us could quite have anticipated the scale and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which continues to influence every one of us.
Despite the ongoing turmoil, I have been proud of the way that the Commonwealth Sport Movement has adapted under these difficult circumstances.

The Global Esports Federation concluded an unprecedented year with a series of historic activities, milestones and achievements. Following the GEF Board meeting held on the occasion of its first anniversary, the GEF hosted its first General Assembly, convening the world’s esports community, Member Federations and partners with a message of gratitude and optimism for the year ahead.
The GEF General Assembly, held via video conference, was updated by the GEF President, Chief Operating Officer and senior members of the GEF administration on the progress and priorities following its first year of activity. The General Assembly provided members the opportunity to interact and ask questions as the community came together to celebrate and set the stage for the new year.
