Carleton student Cihan Erdal now detained in Turkey for three months

5 min read In October 2014, protesters in dozens of cities and towns in Turkey tried to pressure the government into acting against Islamic State militants in Kobani, a Kurdish town in Syria. Police and demonstrators clashed violently. Among those thought to be involved were opposition political parties such as the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP). Six years later, on Sept. 25, 2020, Carleton University PhD student and Canadian permanent resident Cihan Erdal was arrested in Turkey, along with 81 others, for his involvement in HDP at the time of the 2014 violence. With the actual charges against him still unclear three months later, supporters in Canada are pushing to get him freed.

The beneficiary districts were Abura Asebu Kwamankese and Ajumako Enyan Essiam. The Foundation which was established in 2018, is implementing Women’s Voice and Leadership – Gender Transformative Programming Project funded by Global Affairs Canada through Plan International Ghana. Items The items which were presented to the health directorate of the districts included veronica buckets, packs of hand tissue, liquid soap, nose masks and hand sanitizers.

The proposed legislation was introduced in November and is currently at second reading in the House of Commons. Quebecor Inc. is seeking support through the Canada Media Fund to discuss policies such as those relating to conventional and specialty television. Quebecor has hired Garry Keller of StrategyCorp Inc. in this effort. Torstar Corporation is requesting a review of the government’s advertising to ensure that the “buy Canadian” percentage is level with overall procurement. Torstar is advocating for an Australian model of fair content compensation, and wants to discuss making digital subscriptions income-tax deductible, as well as the Canadian Journalism Fund.
