The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) is developing the National Infrastructure Plan 2045 (NIP 2045), which will provide investors with a clear picture of the governmentâs infrastructure plans for the next 24 years.
DPWI Minister Patricia de Lille confirmed this on Tuesday during her budget vote speech in parliament and also provided an update on the status of some of the government’s major strategic integrated projects (SIPs).

A newly established forum to monitor infrastructure projects more effectively and put systems in place to detect and prevent corruption has been launched in Cape Town.
Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) Minister, Patricia de Lille, and Head of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), Advocate Andy Mothibi, launched the Infrastructure Built Anti-Corruption Forum (IBACF) on Monday, an initiative by the Anti-Corruption Task Team, government and civil society, together with the built environment sector.
De Lille said the initiative comes at a time when South Africa has embarked on the implementation of the Infrastructure Investment Plan, approved by Cabinet in May 2020. The plan forms an integral part of the country’s Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan (ERRP).

Government says job creation initiatives starting to yield results

A number of government interventions to stimulate the participation of more South Africans in the economy, particularly young people, are starting to yield results.
According to acting Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, the Presidential Employment Stimulus that was launched in October 2020, to respond to the economic impact of COVID-19 created or retained 360 010 jobs by the end of February 2021, mostly for unemployed youth.
“In addition, the employment stimulus has supported the livelihoods of 60,539 beneficiaries through the transfer of support, including production vouchers for subsistence farmers.
