Portland leaders grapple with gun violence February 22 2021
The Portland Police Bureau added an Enhanced Community Safety Team to investigate shootings in Portland last week.
As gun violence continues to increase in Portland, the City Council met Monday to discuss possible solutions to address what some are calling a public health issue.
Portland has seen its biggest single-year increase in gun violence on record, but it s not alone. Several other cities across the U.S. are also seeing an astronomical rise in gun violence, Dr. Jonathan Jay, a gun violence expert from Boston University, said during a Feb. 22 council work session.

One of the primary responsibilities of government at any level is to provide a safe environment for its population. In the past year, our city has reduced the Portland Police Bureau budget by $27 million and is seeking a 5% reduction across all bureaus in the next fiscal year, including the police.
Police Chief Chuck Lovell has requested that the bureau budget be cut by only 1% to allow for the filling of more than 100 vacancies. Reducing the police bureau budget by 5% at this time is inadvisable, and City Council should heed that request.
Prineville woman injured, cited for DUII in crash February 15 2021
A local woman was cited for DUII following a crash Thursday evening in northeast Prineville.
Crook County Sheriff s Office reported that 42-year-old Kristi Teasdale, of Prineville, was involved in a single-vehicle wreck on Ochoco Highway, near Northshore Trail.
Initial reports to 911 indicated that a red Saturn passenger car had traveled down an embankment, rolled and collided with a tree. It was also reported that there were two occupants trapped in the vehicle.
Deputies arrived on scene and located the car approximately 50 feet down the southern embankment of the highway. The child passenger had exited the Saturn with no injuries. Teasdale had self-extricated from the car and deputies utilized a Rescue rope to help her up from the embankment. Crook County Fire and Rescue arrived on scene and subsequently transported Teasdale to St. Charles Prineville due to her non-life-threatening injuries.
Are you having a good day? Well Jalopnik, via ProPublica, is here to ruin that for you. The nonprofit news organization published a story in June about how the blue wall of silence protects cops who speed into groups of children with their squad cars. I just spotted it this morning and man, will it make your blood boil.
