After the third wave of COVID-19 was declared in Ontario, the province issued an emergency order authorizing the the transfer of patients to other hospitals without their consent in an effort to protect hospital resources from becoming overwhelmed by the rise in COVID patients. The province then expanded that order to allow for patients to be transferred to long-term care homes and retirement homes where necessary.

In a memo sent to hospitals on Wednesday, Deputy Minister of Health Helen Angus announced that an April 28 amendment to an emergency order that permitted hospitals to move chronically ill hospital patients into long-term care homes and retirement homes without their consent is “no longer necessary” due to “some of the improvements to health system conditions that have been observed in recent days.”

Published Saturday, May 29, 2021 2:25PM EDT The Ontario Government has extended certain orders under its Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act within the province. The extension will see the prohibition of recreational camping on public lands, a ban on recreational interprovincial border crossings, the continuation of redeployment of staff and patients between Ontario hospitals as necessary, and the enforcement of COVID-19 measures until at least June 16, 2021. The Office of the Solicitor General confirmed to CTV News Toronto that the provincial stay-at-home order would not be extended along with the orders. The following is a comprehensive list of orders that will now be extended to end on June 16, unless further extended. They were previously scheduled to expire on June 2:
