The J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge reported that now through April 2, the main Bailey Tract parking lot located off of Tarpon Bay Road will be closed to all access, including vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians. Parking is still available for visitors at Smith Pond, off of Island Inn Road.

On an evening where it seemed like the team which took advantage of the wind the most would win, it was the team going against the wind in the second half that finally broke the ice.
Freshman Sophia Kerns put one into the net in the 50th minute to provide the North Fort Myers girls soccer team the only goal it needed to down Naples 1-0 at home to advance to the Region 5A-3 finals on Feb. 23.
Baby shark found stranded on shoreline

Gladys Pena Peraza, of Sanibel, reported that she found a baby shark on Feb. 9 during her morning walk near Beach Access #3 on West Gulf Drive on Sanibel. It was stuck on the shoreline, about a foot and a half from the water, and did not appear to be dead. She noted that when she picked the shark up, its mouth widened, scaring her a little.
