Mazure reflects on nearly 50 years of barbering in Bad Axe

Every town has its go-to guys the person locals trust to know what is going on and Bad Axe s go-to is Fredrick Mazure.
From insight on local events to rumors and gossip, Mazure has the inside scoop. After all, he’s been cutting hair in Bad Axe for more than a half century.
Fred is the son fouth son of Emma (Maurer) and John Mazure. The couple had a total of eight children seven boys and one girl six of whom were born on the family farm, as most kids were at the time.
Nancy Lubeski named new HISD superintendent

The Huron Intermediate School District has announced that Huron County native Dr. Nancy Lubeski will be the district’s next superintendent.
“We are absolutely thrilled to land someone of Nancy’s caliber to lead the ISD,” HISD school board president Jan Holz said in the announcement. “The board is confident that Dr. Lubeski’s fresh perspective and broad experiences will help the county continue on its path to excellence.”
The board made its decision at a meeting earlier this week. Holz said that the school board felt Lubeski brought a lot with her experience and excellence in special education.

For more than seven decades Marvin and Regina Emming have called the small Upper Thumb town of Ruth their home.
Regina is the daughter of Art and Mildred Bischer, and she was part of a farm family who lived about three miles from Ruth. As might be expected, she attended a country school in Filmore which was about a half mile from her home.

The Deckerville, Ubly and North Huron girls varsity basketball teams have earned Division 4 all-state academic honors from the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan.
The Eagles led local teams in Division 4 with a GPA of 3.821. The Bearcats compiled a GPA of 3.762, and the Warriors landed on the list with a GPA of 3.663.
Deckerville finished the 2020-2021 season with a record of 5-4. The Eagles suffered a tough loss to Dryden in their district opener.
