ifredregill@altoonamirror.com Allegheny Township po­­lice filed animal-cruelty charges Monday against two residents after the couple’s pets were discovered living in a home “not habitable for animals,” court documents stated. Ashleigh Savercool, 21, and Antonio Savercool, 23, are each facing numerous animal-care charges, including animal cruelty, animal neglect and not vaccinating pets against rabies, according to court documents. In April, an anonymous caller informed police the Savercools’ cats and three dogs were left unattended for days at a residence on the 100 block of Zimmerman Lane, police reported. While court documents list the Savercools’ address as Cumberland, Md., police noted the Savercools were known to reside at the reported location.

ifredregill@altoonamirror.com A 65-year-old man was killed Thursday when a vehicle hit him on Pleasant Valley Boulevard. The vehicle fled the scene, Altoona police reported. The victim was identified as Lynn James Jury of Altoona, Blair County Coroner Patty Ross told WTAJ. He died from blunt force trauma. Logan Township police said in a news release the incident occurred near the 3300 block of boulevard in the area of the Pleasant Valley Shopping Center about 11 p.m. Altoona police assisted Logan Township at the scene, and the Pennsylvania State Police Crash Reconstruction unit is working with local law enforcement on the investigation.

Stewart A convicted felon is facing firearms-related charges after allegedly lying to Freedom Township police Thursday about owning a handgun found in his car, court documents stated. Martinsburg resident George Stewart, 70, was arraigned Thursday by Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller on charges of possession of a firearm while prohibited and carrying a firearm without a license, according to court documents. Just after midnight Thursday, Freedom Township police received a call about an inebriated man, allegedly Stewart, trying to purchase alcohol at a Sheetz store, police reported. When the responding officer arrived at the location, a person informed him a man later identified as Stewart drove away headed toward Roaring Spring, a criminal complaint stated.

McKinney Blair County Sheriff’s deputies filed drug charges Friday against an Altoona man who revealed in September that he was in possession of a large amount of heroin, court documents stated. On Sept. 18, deputies arrived at Erik McKinney’s residence on the 1900 block of Second Avenue to serve a woman a warrant, according to court documents. McKinney answered the door, and informed the deputies that the person they were looking for was renting a room on the second floor of the residence, a criminal complaint stated. When the deputies discovered the person lying down and surrounded by controlled substances, packaging materials, paraphernalia and multiple cellphones, they informed McKinney he was being detained, but not arrested, court documents stated.
