NEW DELHI: The government has directed steel companies to set up 10,000 oxygenated beds for treating COVID-19 patients.
While 5,000 beds will be set up by the steel PSUs, another 5,000 will be established by private companies like Tata Steel, JSPL, JSW Steel and AMNS India, Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Friday.
In a tweet, the minister informed about a series of meetings held with leaders of the steel industry from both public and private sectors on stepping up the steel industry s contribution towards fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the first time, the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited-Visakhpatnam Steel Plant (RINL-VSP) using all its internal resources and available facilities has embarked upon building a 1,000-bed COVID Care Hospital facility at its function hall Gurajada Kalakshetram in Ukkunagaram.
The decision was taken at a review meeting with Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, wherein he directed the RINL collective to build facilities for providing COVID care to 1,000 patients in Ukkunagaram, township of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
Fuel prices see no change for 18th day
New Delhi, Mar 17 (UNI) The retail fuel prices remained steady for the 18th straight day across the country on Wednesday with the price of petrol and diesel standing at Rs 91.17 and Rs 81.47 per litre respectively, according to the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).
In Mumbai, the price of petrol is Rs 97.57 per litre. The price of diesel stood at Rs 88.60 per litre. Meanwhile, the prices of petrol and diesel in Chennai stood at Rs 93.11 and Rs 86.45 per litre, respectively. The price of petrol and diesel in Kolkata was stable at Rs 91.35 per litre and Rs 84.35 per litre.
