KOCHI: Ever since the announcement of the relocation of KSRTC’s Ernakulam bus station to Karikkamuri, Kochiites are relieved that the days of wading through floodwater to board a bus will be a thing of the past. If things go as per plan, the construction of the new bus station near Ernakulam Junction railway station might begin by the end of this year.

Tourism Minister lays foundation for INR 3-cr amenity centre at Vettukad church
Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for Tourism, Kerala laid the foundation for the INR 3-crore pilgrim amenity centre at the historical Madre De Deus Church, Vettukad.
The facility is part of the Pilgrim Circuit, launched to promote pilgrim tourism by connecting various pilgrim centres of different faiths. The amenity centres provide basic facilities for pilgrims visiting places of worship across the state.
In his address, Surendran said the government has launched a string of projects in different parts of the state to step up infrastructure facilities for the growth of tourism.

The facility is part of Kerala Tourism’s Pilgrim Circuit, launched to promote pilgrim tourism by connecting various pilgrim centres in the State.
Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran, in his address after laying the foundation stone for the centre, said the government had launched a string of projects in different parts of the State to step up infrastructural facilities for tourism.
“This is for the first time that a government is taking initiatives for creating infrastructure facilities in places of worship. Madre de Deus Church, which reminds of ancient churches in Rome because of its architectural features, has historical importance,” he said.

Project involves beautification of capital city
Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran will formally launch the third phase of Arteria, the city’s beautification project, on Friday.
The endeavour, which will mostly involve restoration of the mural paintings undertaken during the other phases, will get under way near the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation office.
Secretary of Social Justice Department Biju Prabhakar, who is a member of the renovation committee, said the government has sanctioned ₹10 lakh for the purpose.
Besides, another ₹2.5 lakh that had been allocated by the Tourism Department for maintenance of the art works during the previous phases will also be utilised.
