Tajikistan, Egypt discuss bilateral cooperation
AKIPRESS.COM - Ambassador of Tajikistan to Egypt Zarobiddin Kosimi met with Egyptian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia Affairs Tariq Al-Wasimi, the Foreign Ministry of Tajikistan said.
Bilateral cooperation issues were discussed during this meeting.
A special attention was paid to the next round of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of two countries, next meeting of the intergovernmental commission for commercial, economic, scientific, technical cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that talks with Egypt would continue until the normalization of relations between the two countries.
In remarks on Friday, Erdogan said Turkey was seeking to restore “unity of historical roots with the people of Egypt,” emphasizing a new phase of relations.
Asked to comment about the recent talks which were hosted by Cairo at the level of deputy foreign ministers, the Turkish president said: “We seek to restore this unity of historical roots with the people of Egypt and to maintain it again as brotherly friends and not as brothers-enemies.”

Egypt and Sudan are trying to intensify their efforts to pressure the Italian contracting giant Salini Impregilo (currently Webuild) that had won a contract to build the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in Ethiopia.
Sudan recently declared its intention to sue the Italian company should Addis Ababa proceed with the second filling stage of the dam’s reservoir.
Sudan’s Irrigation Minister Yasser Abbas said in an April 23 statement, “In the event the second stage of filling the GERD was completed without reaching a legally binding agreement, our legal teams, with the help of international law firms, will file a lawsuit against the Italian company that executed the dam’s project and against the Ethiopian government.”

CAIRO US special envoy for Sudan Donald Booth embarked on a regional tour March 27 to revive the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) negotiations between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia that have been stalled since January. Washington s last mediation efforts failed in 2020.
Booth s efforts may bear fruit. Congolese officials said April 1 that the foreign ministers of Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia will meet in Kinshasa on Saturday in an effort to launch a fresh round of talks on the 10-year-old dispute.
