PARIS France is in advanced talks to sell 30 Rafale fighter jets to Egypt, a government source said on Monday, in a 3.75 billion euro ($4.5 billion) deal which investigative website Disclose said could be sealed as soon as Tuesday.
President Emmanuel Macron said in December he would not make the sale of weapons to Egypt conditional on human rights because he did not want to weaken Cairo’s ability to counter terrorism in the region, a comment that drew the ire of critics.

France agrees sale of war planes to Egypt
The Egyptian government of President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi has confirmed reports it is buying 30 Rafale fighter jets. Human rights advocates have voiced concern.
The Rafale has become one of France s most popular defense export items and Egypt one of its best customers
The French government is selling 30 Dassault Rafale fighter jets as well as military electronics to the government of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi.
The Egyptian Defense Ministry confirmed the deal in a post on Twitter Monday.
Similar large-scale military contracts with Egypt fell through in the past apparently more over concerns about Egypt s ability to pay for the equipment rather than concerns over its human rights record.
