(AP) New Jersey s top motor vehicle official has been tapped to become an assistant defense secretary, Gov. Phil Murphy confirmed Friday in a statement. Motor Vehicle Commission Chief Administrator Sue Fulton will join President Joe Biden s administration as assistant secretary of defense for manpower and reserve affairs, according to the Democratic governor. Murphy named Fulton to the MVC post in 2018. She s a former Army captain and was a member of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point s first class to admit women. She served as a signal officer in the Army, as well as a platoon leader, staff officer and company company before being honorable discharged.

April 18, 1912: The Paint Creek-Cabin Creek Strike of 1912-13 began when coal operators rejected the demand of their unionized workers for a wage increase. The strike that followed was one of the most dramatic and bloody conflicts in the early 20th-century labor struggles in southern West Virginia known as the Mine Wars. April 19, 1896: Writer Melville Davisson Post was born in Harrison County. His best-known works are the âRandolph Masonâ series, published in three volumes, and the more successful collection, âUncle Abner: Master of Mysteries.â

St Patrick Senior Sawyer Stone accepted into two service academies

Being accepted into one of the U.S. Military Service Academies is a competitive process that even requires congressional nomination. One local high school senior has achieved a rare milestone by receiving appointments from not one, but two of those academies. - Advertisement - For St. Patrick Senior Sawyer Stone, involvement and a sense of service are qualities he strives to live by. “I want to have a purpose greater than myself, and to me, the best way to do that was serve as an officer in the military.” The son of two retired Air Force colonels, Stone applied to the U.S. Air Force Academy as well as the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
