Nine students from the DMV region have been awarded the 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholar award, according to the U.S. Department of Education.  161 students are named Presidential Scholars each year, and the award is one of the nation s highest honors for high school students.  The awards given are separated for Scholar for U.S. Presidential Scholar in Arts and Scholar for U.S Presidential Scholar in Career and Technical Education. The eight students from DC, Maryland and Virginia are: District of Columbia - Stephen Thomas Mirabello, Washington - School Without Walls DC - Tess I Weinreich, Washington - The Potomac School

Acadiana seniors named 2021 National Merit Scholars

Five Acadiana students were named National Merit Scholars, each receiving $2,500 and distinction few can boast. They are among only 2,500 Merit Scholars nationwide  33 in Louisiana   chosen from a talent pool of some 16,000 finalists in the 2021 scholarship program. Four hail from Lafayette Parish: Oliver Craddock of Lafayette High; Arden Frantzen of Episcopal School of Acadiana; Rafael Hernandez of Teurlings Catholic High School; and Alaina Le of St. Thomas More Catholic High School. A fifth, AnaLaysha Burgess-Collazo, is from Jeanerette and attends the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts, a public residential high school in Natchitoches.
