(AP) A woman who illegally imported pangolin scales and sold them to an undercover officer from her Southeast Portland store was sentenced Monday to three years of federal probation. Agnes Yu, 53, who has owned Wing Ming Herbs with her husband for about 20 years, said the scales are believed to have medicinal properties and used to help promote the production of breast milk. Yu admitted to ordering the scales from an importer in San Francisco and selling 30 grams of the scales to the officer for $165 in 2017, according to a prosecutor.

(AP) Wildlife officials are offering a $10,000 reward in their investigation into the killing of a bald eagle in West Tennessee. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency are seeking the public s help as they work to figure out who shot and killed a mature bald eagle in Lake County. The bird was shot on Club House Road on March 20. The reward for information leading to the prosecution of the eagle s killer has increased from $4,500 to $10,000. Anyone with information should call either the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at 615-736-5532 or the TWRA at 731-423-5725.

Alaska to acquire habitat along Kasilof River via US grant April 1, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail KENAI, Alaska (AP) Alaska will acquire about a half square mile (1.3 square kilometers) of habitat along the Kasilof River through a federal grant. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service approved a grant of about $340,000 for the project through its National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grant program, the Peninsula Clarion reported Tuesday. The total cost of the project is estimated at around $500,000. The fish and wildlife service program aims to “protect, restore and enhance coastal wetland ecosystems and associated uplands” across the country. The project will protect about .44 square miles (about 1.14 square kilometers) of coastal wetland habitat in the Kasilof River Flats, including 2.25 miles (3.62 kilometers) of river shoreline.
