Erin McKenzie is an Early Years Apprentice employed by The City of Edinburgh Council
Apprenticeship schemes have fast become a route to future employment for thousands of school leavers, as the Scottish Government’s Youth Employment Strategy set out an ambition to reach 30,000 apprenticeship starts annually.
Openreach judge Anna Steven said: “It’s been fantastic to be associated with the first Edinburgh Apprenticeship Awards. We’ve been hugely impressed by the high calibre of entrants. As one of Scotland’s biggest employers of apprentices, we know what a massive contribution they make. And it’s never been more critical than in this past year, with many apprentices on the front line as key workers during the pandemic.
ONE of the LibDems’ top Scottish Parliament election candidates has been running her campaign from her home hundreds of miles away in London, it has emerged. Katy Gordon is the party’s number one list candidate in West Scotland, as well as running for the constituency seat in Clydebank and Milngavie. On her website, she claims to have made the west of Scotland “her home for the past 22 years” and lists Bearsden as her location on Facebook. She was also introduced as being from East Dunbartonshire at the LibDem conference last year. However, The National has learned that Gordon has in fact been living in London for several years.
Study to dive into stories of nurses and midwives accused of witchcraft
Edinburgh Napier University s Sighthill Campus
Researchers are to investigate the folk-healer nurses and midwives in early modern Scotland who were accused of – and often executed for – the crime of witchcraft.
The team of researchers at Edinburgh Napier University has won funding from the RCN Foundation to investigate more than 100 folk healers and midwives who are listed on the Survey of Scottish Witchcraft online database. I am delighted we have been awarded funding from the RCN Foundation to investigate this over-looked part of nursing history
Nicola Ring
The foundation, which is an independent charity, awarded a Monica Baly Education Grant to the researchers as part of its programme to mark the extended International Year of the Nurse and Midwife.
