MEMBERS of Norton Town Council have urged people to adhere to the current rules around Covid-19. At their monthly meeting, councillors said that with more shops and workplaces open than in the first lockdown, there were more people moving around in the community. Mayor Cllr Antony Croser, said: As a result it was felt that there is a need to re-emphasise messaging around the part the public have to play in combating the spread of the virus, especially around mask wearing in shops and social distancing in general. Ryedale has experienced fluctuating rates of infection in recent weeks whilst neighbouring districts have had continual falls. Residents of the town have been infected and the seriousness of the situation hits home harder when you can put names to cases. A COMMUNITY has rallied together to provide meals for volunteers during the Covid vaccination programme. Pickering businesses, including The White Swan Inn, The Sun Inn, The Black Swan, Thomas the Baker, Co-operative, Hanns the Butcher, Scrumptious Deli, Willowgate Bistro and Taylors of Pickering, volunteered their time to support the Pickering Medical Practice in vaccinating more than 900 people on January 6 and 7. The effort was led by Cllr Carrie-Anne Brackstone, Pickering Mayor Helen McAnulty-Rickard and a team of more than 25 volunteers. The first residents in the borough received a dose of the pioneering Pfizer/BioNTech immunisation on Tuesday morning.
Hundreds more have since been following from GPs services across Scarborough and Ryedale.
MP for Scarborough and Whitby Robert Goodwill said: It is fantastic news.
Rosemary Shaw is given the first part of the Covid vaccination at Filey Surgery.
“It is safe and effective and the only way we are going to get back to normality.”
Filey Surgery was one of the first GP practices in the country to roll out the vaccine, immunising their first patients on Tuesday.
THE first patients in Pickering have received the Covid-19 vaccine. Pickering Medical Practice will be acting as a primary care hub and will be vaccinating eligible patients from its own practice and those registered at Kirkbymoorside, Helmsley and Terrington practices. Kirstie Vincer, nurse manager at Pickering Medical Practice, said: Everyone is fantastically excited to be able to begin vaccinating. It s taken an effort like none of us have ever experienced and it s only been possible because of the collective energy of colleagues within our Primary Care Network and an army of volunteers. “We are all set up and ready to vaccinate people efficiently and safely. It’s incredibly exciting knowing that we will be one of the first GP practices to provide the vaccine.
