In this day and age it seems like the cool new thing to do is for big companies to purchase smaller companies under their wing. This time saw Electronic Arts and Take-Two Interactive battle it out over a deal to acquire Codemasters, the famed UK game developer, and it looks like EA has agreed to a massive $1.2 billion deal.
Codemasters are most well known for their racing games, recently including Dirt 5 and F1 2020, and the deal is expected to be finalized by Q1 2021. The $1.2 billion price was based on a share price of $7.98 per share, and the previous deal by Take-Two Interactive was set for $980 million.

The company, a provider of cloud-based communications services, is launching RingCentral Glip, a video and chat app that competes not only with Zoom Video Communications, but also Cisco Webex (which recently announced its own upgrades), Microsoft Teams, and Google Hangouts, plus collaborative software provider Slack Technologies.

Back on November 10th 2020, Take-Two Interactive announced they had reached an agreement to purchase the UK based developer and publisher Codemasters. The acquisition, which the Codemasters board recommended the shareholders to agree to. It would have been worth $994 million, as the offer would be a mix of cash & stock.
Today sees a twist to the story, as Electronic Arts have announced their intent to buy Codemasters for $1.2 billion cash. The Codemasters board have now recommended this new offer to their shareholders. The transaction is set to go through in the calendar first quarter of 2021.
