Formula 1 - Codemasters bought out by Electronic Arts

Formula 1 Codemasters, developers of the annual official Formula 1 games, have been bought by American software corporation Electronic Arts. Codemasters, who are the UK-based software house that are responsible for the development and publication of the annual F1 game series, have been bought out by EA Games. The purchase has been rumoured for some time, with Codemasters initially looking set to be bought out by Take Two Interactive. However, this triggered a bidding war, with EA Games finally winning with a bid of $1.2 billion dollars. “Electronic Arts and Codemasters have a shared ambition to lead the video game racing category,” commented Gerhard Florin, Chairman of Codemasters.

European computer games maker Codemasters Group, which specializes in car racing games, has backed Electronics Arts and slammed the brakes on its recommendation for the previous Take-Two offer. The bid battle comes four months after Codemasters was tipped in Barron’s as undervalued at 341 pence (455 cents). The shares closed at 642 pence on Monday and if readers had invested they would have seen a 88% increase on their holding.
