(WCSC) - The Department of Health and Environmental Control is encouraging people to drop off unused, expired or unwanted drugs. The Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a nationwide event hosted biannually by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Ideally, it provides a responsible way for the public to dispose of prescription drugs that might otherwise be stolen, abused or fall into the wrong hands.

‘National Take Back Day’ is April 23 In recognition of “National Take Back Day,” the Perry Police Department and the City of Perry Fire Department will serve as a collection sites for unused medications on April 24. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, residents will be able to safely dispose of unused prescription medications rather than flushing them down the drain, which can affect local water quality, or storing them where others can access the drugs. Stock photo Prescription drugs (Metro Creative) Drug Take Back Day to be held Saturday Contributed • April 21, 2021 Aroostook County law enforcement agencies will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24.  AROOSTOOK COUNTY, Maine Aroostook County law enforcement agencies will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24.  Anyone who has unused or unwanted prescription drugs is asked to bring them to any local police department for proper disposal. During the last Take Back Day on Oct. 24, Maine police departments collected 40,100 pounds of medications. In Aroostook County, 3,635 pounds of medication were collected.

Reporter Heather Clisby has details… The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have joined forces to rid your medicine cabinet of risky pills. Saturday, April 24, is Take-Back Day, where residents can bring unused or expired pills from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. to the Morongo Basin Patrol Station at 63665 29 Palms Hwy in Joshua Tree. The service is free and anonymous.
