During a recent press briefing hosted by the American Public Transportation Association, transit leaders highlighted the industry’s ability to launch on-demand transit programs, which flourished during the pandemic.

Courtesy Photo/L.A. Metro On-demand transit projects that started before COVID-19 have led to robust ridership and speak to innovation that the public will need in a post-COVID world, according to experts during an event last week.
“From the start of the pandemic, the public transportation industry pivoted to meet a new world of never-before-seen challenges,” said Paul Skoutelas, president and CEO of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) during a July 28 press briefing. “Innovation became survival.”

GENESEE COUNTY, MI Voters in Genesee County weighed in on multiple tax proposals during Tuesday’s special election.
Notable millage renewals included an MTA millage renewal for public transportation, a Flint public safety millage that funds police and fire in the city and a new millage dedicated to community mental health services through Genesee Health System.
Just one millage from Gaines Township that would support public safety failed to pass. It may cause the township to shut down its police department.

Man in critical condition after crash between SUV and MTA bus in downtown Flint

FLINT, MI - A crash over the holiday weekend between an SUV and a Flint Metro Transportation Authority (MTA) bus has left one person in critical condition at a local hospital.
Emergency personnel responded shortly before 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27 to the intersection of South Saginaw and Third streets for a crash between a GMC Yukon and the MTA bus.
The on-scene investigation by Flint police has indicated the SUV driven by Andrew Lee-Alan Scott was headed south on Saginaw Street when it hit the side of the MTA bus, which was headed east on Third Street.
