Albanese says WA McGowan win is good news for federal Labor

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese has celebrated WA Premier Mark McGowan's successful win at the state election over the weekend saying he takes “great encouragement” from it for the ALP at the next federal election. “It’s an extraordinary outcome for Mark McGowan. It’s not just about the pandemic of course, it’s about the way that WA Labor have run the economy,” he said. Speaking about potential national consequences of the WA election result, Mr Albanese said while the outcome was “primarily about Western Australia” it had to be “good news” for federal Labor. “The fact that you have a branch of the Liberal party wiped off the map shows that they are going to struggle to run an effective campaign," he said. “Certainly, their campaign in the state election was disastrous and it will be the same people who are running campaigns on the ground during the federal campaign.” The opposition leader pointed out many people had voted for the ALP for t
